MAD MEN Cast on Inside The Actor’s Studio

The May 14th episode of “Inside The Actor’s Studio” with James Lipton will feature none other than the cast of Mad Men.

Expect to see Joh Hamm, January Jones, Vincent Kartheiser, Jared Harris, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Kiernan Shipka and series creator Matt Weiner sitting in the panel to discuss about the show and some of the personal information from these stars about getting the role and working on the set.

Like for instance, Jon Hamm talks about how he needed to audition for the role of Don Draper seven times. Matt Weiner was apparently told that the actor wasn’t sexy enough.

Kiernan Shipka, the youngest in the cast, shares how she never actually got to watch full episodes of her show and although she admits she is not watching consistently, she is aware of what is happening with the stories and the characters.

January Jones shares something more personal, such as the origin of her name, while Vincent Kartheiser talks about doing movies and his other work, aside from Mad Men.

“Inside The Actor’s Studio” comes on air in the Brave Channel and starts at 7 PM. Don’t forget! It’s going to be really fun watching these stars share their most personal secrets and process doing the work that they do.

MAD MEN: Alexis Bledel Kept Quiet About Her Role For Months

I’m sure that most people were surprised to see Alexis Bledel all grown up on Mad Men in last Sunday’s episode. I was. I wasn’t even aware she was gonna be on the show and according to an interview, the actress had to kept quiet about being on the show for six months. This was apparently going to be one of its surprises. Alexis Bledel actually filmed her episode last November.

Even more surprising was the role she was cast to play — that of Beth, the lonely housewife who got into an affair with Pete.

Beth is quite a complicated character, and Alexis sums it all up nicely when she said in an interview that the audience will not be able to pin point what exactly is wrong with her. She was added in the show to sort of confused Pete, or make him realize what his priorities should be.

I’m not sure if her character will be back or if this is just a one off thing for Pete. But one thing is certain, the character played by Bledel has made a lasting impact. And even more so, is because she played this part so convincingly I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s asked back next time.

Mad Men: Jon Hamm to star with Daniel Radcliffe in a TV mini-series

Jon Hamm is going to be busy with a minor TV project once Mad Men is done this season. The actor has just signed on to star in a four part TV drama with Daniel Radcliffe, of the Harry Potter fame.

The series has no working title yet. But it will be a period piece set in the First World War and the two actors will be playing Russian doctors.

Daniel Radcliffe and Jon Hamm are actually going to play one and the same character. Radcliffe will be featured in the doctor’s young life, while Hamm is going to portray the doctor in his more adult life.

The two are still going to be together in some scenes, perhaps as the series will tackle some introspection and flashbacks.

Reports say that Radcliffe is actually very excited about this project and the prospect of working with Jon Hamm as he is such a huge fan of Mad Men. While Hamm is also familiar with who Harry Potter is, the two can actually learn a lot from each other about their craft.

The series is scheduled to air abroad on Sky Arts and won’t air until later this year or early next year.

Mad Men: A Profile on Sally Draper

If Mad Men were to decide on doing a spinoff later, I think that people would be interested in finding out what becomes of Sally Draper when she grows up.

Kiernan Shipka, the young actress who plays her, totally gets what her character is going through. My favorite part from the last episode is when Sally was asked by her friend how is Manhattan and she curtly replied that it’s “Dirty”.

This girl is growing up with lots of issues, basically because of the environment she’s exposed to.

She has little guidance from her mother, and lots of love from her father, who totally misses that what Sally really needs is a solid figure to become her role model.

Thank god, there’s Megan. But there’s only so much Megan can do for her now, as Sally is growing up headstrong with a bit of curiousity in her.

In last week’s episode, Sally was looking forward to be at her father’s ball. It’s her first adult party and she thinks it’s all glitz and glamour. She is disappointed in the end when she realizes its actually corrupt (hence the “dirty” reaction).

Adulthood can be totally disappointing and disgusting and Sally going through this stage would make for a really interesting new TV show. Don’t you agree?

Mad Men: Even Megan’s Parents’ Marriage Isn’t Perfect

This week on Mad Men, the Drapers gets a visit from Megan’s parents and we find out that theirs isn’t exactly an ideal marriage and may in fact, seem very familiar to Don.

The Calvet couple, Emile and Marie, have their own thing going on. Emile, is in fact having an affair with a grad student, while Marie is quite flirtatious and will come on to just about any man, including someone like Roger Sterling!

Marie’s flirting was even witnessed by the young Sally herself! This kid is gonna grow up with so many issues, don’t you think? Sally has no solid guidance about the things happening around her, I feel so bad for this young girl.

But Megan, it turns out, is so used to this kind of relationship with her parents. How can she still look so positive about everything when her parents’ marriage is like his? How can she still manage to talk to her parents? I’ve got to say Megan is really some girl. Don has never met anyone quite like her.

Megan tells Don, they fight, they scream at each other, and then they make up. It’s something they have been doing forever…doesn’t that ring a bell?

Mad Men: Whatever Happened Between Pete and Peggy?

The star of Mad Men, Vincent Kartheiser, who plays Pete Campbell on the show, has his own theories about what has happened between the relationship of Pete and Peggy.

The two, it seems, have a good rapport now, even as their relationship before was pretty much complicated by Peggy’s pregnancy and eventually giving up the baby.

As you may recall, Pete and Peggy hooked up a couple of weeks before Pete’s wedding. That encounter resulted in Peggy becoming pregnant and giving birth, which she hides from the father and only revealed it a year after. All throughout, their relationship has been strained.

But after a few years, it seems they have gotten over the pain and anguish.

The actor believes it’s probably because time has healed the wounds between this former lovers. Peggy was even kind enough to congratulate him when Trudy and him finally had their own baby.

Vincent Kartheiser thinks that Pete has immense respect for Peggy as a copywriter and a hard worker. Peggy is really one of those who pulls her weight at work, unlike Roger Sterling or Ken Cosgrove, which Pete considers his ultimate nemesis in his career.

Mad Men: Focus on Teyonah Parris

The first African American character on Mad Men is Dawn, who was introduced early on in this season’s storyline. Hers is only a recurring guest character and while with little exposure, the character is significant to the show and the decade which Mad Men is now currently in.

Teyonah Parris is the actress who plays Dawn, and according to her, she has no idea what’s Dawn’s life is really all about.

Matthew Weiner does not easily share backstories of the characters with their actors, until its necessary. Teyonah said that she only got the script with little idea of who her character is. ” I had to ask a few questions, like, how long have I been here? You know, I didn’t even know how I got there,” she relates in an interview. She only got to know more about Dawn when she actually watched the episode where she was featured.

The actress notes, however, that she has some idea how Dawn will figure into the series and says she will face a lot of difficulties being the first “colored” person to be working on Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.

Teyonah says the character bears some responsibility for her, for what she represents and that can get overwhelming.
