Mad Men Season 5 Starts With A Kiss

People working on Mad Men have been pretty much tight lipped about what will be happening on the return of the series this coming March 25, the show’s 5th season. But Matthew Weiner, the seires creator has been quite vocal about some of the scenes viewers need to watch for, including this kiss between Don Draper and his soon to be wife.

The Sunday premiere has “A Little Kiss” as its episode title, and it’s very easy to assume this will be between Don and Megan…however, this is Mad Men and Don Draper’s kind of unpredictable when it comes to his women. He could be kissing a new girl, for all we know. And that may just be the biggest surprise they have in store.

The very first episode, by the way, is also going to be directed by Jon Hamm, who plays Don Draper, and it’s his first shot at the chair, which fortunately for him, earned good feedback from his colleagues, as it was apparently a well-made episode.

We will see for ourselves when the show comes is here, in the meantime…who might your guesses be about who is going to share that kiss in the first episode back?

Mad Men’s Jon Hamm Slips Season 5 Premiere Date

Mad Men fans put your hands together because we have an announcement for you! Well actually Jon Hamm, one of the lead actors of the popular AMC series prematurely made the announcement, but now that it has been confirmed I will share it with you. Yes, it’s the long awaited season 5 premiere date, are you ready…. March 25th!!

Last weekend Hamm, who plays Don Draper in the popular series let the date slip during a podcast interview, oops! After a few days though, AMC confirmed what Hamm had accidentally revealed and announced the popular series will finally return on March 25. They added fans can expect the premiere to be two-hour episode in which Matthew Weiner, the series creator wrote. Jennifer Getzinger directed the premiere episode, she also directed the popular episode “The Suitcase” in season 4.

It’s been a long time waiting for this announcement and we still have two more months until we can actually watch it. Season 4 came to a close in October of 2010, so it’s been over a year of playing this waiting game. It’s been no secret what caused the delay, as Weiner Lionsgate and AMC participated in a lengthy contract renegotiation. When the dust finally settled Mad Men fans were given the assurance of three more seasons, with Weiner concluding that season 7 will be the final season for the series.

Let’s not focus on the end right now though, it’s time celebrate! Here’s hoping more sneak peaks are revealed or teasers are slipped in the upcoming months as we begin the countdown for March 25. Have you marked your calendar?

Mad Men Creator Teases Season 5 Details

Following the announcement of the long awaited Mad Men season 5 premiere, its creator Matthew Weiner revealed a little of what fans can expect. He unfortunately wouldn’t reveal a lot but what he did, we have for you.

Weiner was tight-lipped when asked recently where the new season would pick up, saying fans will have to watch and see. He added there are few surprises left in life, let’s try to have as much expectation as possible for the premiere. Weiner did say however, without being specific that fans can expect a minimum of a 24 hour time leap from where the finale left off. Thanks Weiner, he can be tight-lipped when he wants to be.

Themes surrounding the highly anticipated season, well he was a little more giving in that department. Weiner dished fans can expect to see a lot going on throughout the season. He continued by referring to the season as a little about every man for himself and how one comes to terms with the reality that sometimes life isn’t fair. Weiner added he writes from his feelings and that right now he just feels there’s a lot of changes going on and therefore fans can expect that to come through in what he has written for the series this season.

Season 5 definitely sounds interesting and I am counting the days down for the two-hour premiere. Weiner dished recently in an interview that when he began writing the premiere episode there was so much story to it, which is why it turned into a two-hour episodes. I’m pleased he chose to keep it long rather than cutting it, after waiting this long for a new season, I think a two-hour premiere is deserving for the fans, don’t you?

Mad Men: Abigail Spencer Writes & Stars in Romantic Comedy

Abigail Spencer, who played the role of Don Draper’s mistress briefly on Mad Men, wrote a romantic comedy where she will also star. She also hopes that James Franco will get on board this project to act as the producer.

The movie has the following actors joining her — Andrew Leeds, Matt Gould, Griffin Matthews, Camille Chen and Eric Roberts.

The story focuses on two people who has a chance meeting because of the wrong phone call. The lead character is a wife, who recently lost her father, while the stranger she pursues opens up an unlikely friendship with her and brings up some gray areas between the friendship shared by people of different sex.

According to reports, Abigail Spencer has been working on Wrong Number for three years, and has met James Franco while shooting for the Oz remake, where both of them are also part of. She related her story to Franco, who was said to be encouraged to produce it.

In fact, Franco has earlier related to the press that he is planning on making a small-budget movie, along with the students of NYU and mentioned this romantic comedy.

Spencer’s writing career started off early before she got to acting and has worked on one developing a pilot for ABC network.

What To Expect from Mad Men Season 5

The actors of Mad Men refused to divulge any details about the show’s upcoming season which will begin airing this March, but its series creator gave the press a hint of what’s to come when Mad Men returns for its fifth season.

According to Matt Wiener, this year, the running theme would be “every man for himself.” He further expands this by saying that the characters are going to realize that their own problems are theirs to hurdle and not everyone will be interested about it.

It also means that each of them will have to go through a personal crisis.

As the world is changing in this period — technologically, socially and economically, the characters will be dealing with their own stuff. Who has it the worst among Don, Betty, Peggy, Roger and the rest of the cast, Weiner does not want to reveal.

He says, “I can’t tell you that. I can tell you one thing, which is that if you keep it on your mind, it is constantly there. And you know, I’m a composer who is writing for an incredible orchestra. It is not pre-meditated, but there are seasons where there’s been a lot of Betty, seasons where there’s been a lot of Peggy. There’s always going to be a lot of Don. But I have gotten to really feel like, even with this huge cast of characters that I fought to keep in the world – I don’t want the world to get any smaller – I think that Christina had an amazing season, Vinny (Kartheiser) had an amazing season, Lizzy (Moss). It’s all over the place.”

Sounds like chips are falling and falling hard for everyone.

Mad Men: Jon Hamm Gets Animated!

Mad Men’s star Jon Hamm gets an animated treatment along with his girfriend Jennifer Westfeldt and their German Shephered, Cora, for Martha Speaks, a TV series that airs on PBS Kids. The show will premiere this coming February 20th.

Here’s what the cartoon of Jon Hamm looks like:

Martha Speaks is a show based on a children’s book which has been authored by Susan Meddaugh. It’s about a young dog named Martha who relishes on alphabet soup. Her constantly eating this gives her the ability to be able to speak.

Jon Hamm’s cartoon character, along with his girlfriend and their dog, appears in two episodes. The couple has looked forward to becoming a part of the kids series, especially because they are working with Cora, who they treat like their own.

Jennifer Westfeldt also does the voice of Kit Luntanne in the series. The character of Jon Hamm is actually named Ham Johnson in the episode, who is an actor and a businessman and an admirer of Kit.

It looks like a cute production, isn’t it? The kids will definitely love this!

Former Mad Men Star In New Joss Whedon Movie

I think that of all of Don Draper’s mistresses, he did have special loving feelings for the school teacher character that Abigail Spencer played. The actress, who is no longer part of Mad Men, but still is recognized for her work in the series, has just been cast in a supernatural romance story that acclaimed writer Joss Whedon will be doing.

This movie is quite low-budget and will be written and produced by Whedon himselff. Brin Hill is set to direct the film, which is reportedly going to come out next year, possibly.

Details to the movie are still scarce, however, it’s reportedly going to be produced and shot quickly, much like one of Whedon’s previous films which he did in only under 12 days.

The story of the film is about two opposite beings who connect preternaturally. Can one of them be a supernatural, though?

Abigail Spencer has been seen last in the movie Cowboy’s & Aliens over the summer. And will have several other movies hitting the theaters nextt, like the Reese Witherspoon starrer This Means War and Oz The Great and Powerful with James Franco.

There are no more plans to bring the actress to Mad Men, though.

Mad Men’s Poster Criticized

The first official poster for Mad Men’s season 5 return has been released on Twitter the other day. Not a lot of people had something nice to say about it. In fact, the poster is drawing a lot of criticisms saying that it does look like a copy of a poster done for 9/11 and that seemed to show disrespect.

Here’s the Mad Men poster, which, interestingly enough, did not came with the show’s title. AMC is perhaps trusting the show’s loyal viewers to recognize this instantly, even when it only had the date of its return in the text.

The show also hints about the continuing decline of characters into depression, as that is what Mad Men is about.

This is the image of The Falling Man, which is an actual photo of a person who jumped of the World Trade Center during the 9/11 attacks.

The Mad Men poster is offensive advertising, as it depicts suicide in a way. And its actual ad people who have reacted to this. So, the poster is not only offensive to 9/11 victims and their families. It’s giving advertising a bad name, so to speak.

Newsweek Dedicating a Redesigned Issue For Mad Men

When Newsweek releases its March issue this year, don’t be surprised to see the magazine looking really old aesthetically, as the people behind this are planning to come out with a 1960′s design to commemorate the return of Mad Men.

The idea is to also have the ads running for this issue be that of ads found in the 60′s, which is definitely a salute to Don Draper and the rest of those working at Sterling, Cooper, Draper and Pryce.

The show returns to TV, after more than a year and a half’s absence, on March 25.

According to Newsweek’s Chief editor, Tina Brown, the decade in which Mad Men takes place is also the beginning of Newsweek’s importance and significance in the cultural forefront. “So it seemed like a wonderful marriage in a sense to take that and apply it to the magazine, to make the magazine an homage to the period,” she adds.

One thing will not be included in this redesigned magazine, though. There will be no ads for tobacco running, as Newsweek has since stopped accepting this.

Ad agencies who are putting up their ads in this issue seem to be all up for the idea.

The Mad Men issue of Newsweek will come out sometime March 19th.

Mad Men Season 5 Will Deal With A Major Accident?

As news that Mad Men is returning on TV by March 25th, after 525 days of being off the air, episode guides and summaries are being posted online, much to the delight of its fans and viewers.

One episode, the fifth in the season, is entitled “Signal 30″ which curiously may be a reference to a film that was done in the 1950′s about traffic accidents. This is the official synopsis of that movie, which is said to contain many shocking scenes:

Legendary “shock” driving safety film featuring numerous scenes of mutilated cars and injured/dead people and a voiceover lacking in compassion. Produced in cooperation with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and shown to millions of young drivers for over 40 years.

Is this what’s going to happen on Mad Men? And who will be involved in the accident? Will someone important to Don Draper die? Again? Remember that in Season 4, Anna Draper, the sole person who knows and gets Don Draper’s real identity, and Don mourned for her loss in a gut-wrenching breakdown in one of the show’s finest episodes.

Is Don up for another mourning?

March 25 seems so far away. Can’t wait for it to come already!
